This challenge aims to move Alabama out of the bottom ten in national health rankings by 2030. The plan is to improve the quality of life in our local communities by focusing on changes that support active living, good nutrition, and wellness through enhancements to policies, systems, and the built environment.

Where BLHI comes in is the built environment. The built environment includes the physical parts of where we live and work. Our goal is to transform Birmingham neighborhoods into ones that promote active and healthy lifestyles. The community we will focus on for this project is Bush Hills. Improvements will include new sidewalks, bike lanes and repaving, bus shelters, green spaces, lighting upgrades, a community garden, and a few surprises!

We have already begun preliminary work with this community, the City of Birmingham, and of course, UAB. Since this is a company initiative, we have selected a solid team comprised of both International and U.S. employees to spearhead this effort for BLHI! It will take many people, including BLHI employees and subcontractors, to make the Bush Hills project a success. Be on the lookout for opportunities where you can get involved!
