The BL Harbert team came up with the idea to re-purpose the Woodrow Wilson Elementary School for the Bush Hills neighborhood. The team honed in on specific areas such as the cafeteria and gymnasium spaces and the pavilion that occupies the space between those two areas. The primary uses of the spaces will include:
Face-to-face after school enrichment programs for elementary thru high school students
Neighborhood meetings
Social and fundraising activities
Adult career development programs
Health and wellness classes (exercise, cooking, nutrition, and gardening)
Youth activities (boys and girls clubs, sports)
Community education programs (beautification, sustainability, maintenance, and safety)
Space rental to other community organizations for meetings and activities
Community planning for built environment improvements
Holding sessions for updates on the community garden resources
BL Harbert and GMC have been working together to optimize the spaces to accommodate what's best for the community.
